tbh im not really interested in big hero 6 or zootopia so waiting for moana will be another round of suffering since they said its not going to be ready until like 2018
For Musker, working in pre-production with Clements on Moana and with guidance from Lasseter, is a continuation of the sincerity and heart that they learned from the Nine Old Men. However, he confirmed that it’s far too early to apply the Paperman hybrid technique to a feature. The Meander digital in-betweening interface still has a host of production issues (including color) that need to be perfected.
"In some ways, [Paperman] may be the tip of the iceberg in how there are ways that hand-drawn sensibilities can merge and I think there will be other things that come out that find ways of fusing those."
Meanwhile, Musker looks forward to learning more about CG and making it work for Moana in an illustrative way (Paul Gauguin, anyone?). It’s built around the Disney ethos and music will naturally play a strong role. “We both are fans of music and I think that animation and music go along together.”
Coming in 2018 is Disney’s next fairy tale mythology animated feature film, set amongst the South Pacific islands, rendered in a ‘painterly-style CGI’ (think the Paperman short): and y’all are going to LOVE IT:
The main character will be Moana Waialiki, a sea voyaging enthusiast, and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. When her family needs her help, she sets off on an epic journey. The film will also include demi-gods and spirits taken from real mythology.
This is also currently being directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the duo who directed The Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Hercules and The Princess an the Frog! So there’s that
prayer circle for no whitewashing
Ok THIS could make me excited :)
WOAH WOAH when did they release the logo image?? all we had before was that lone concept art and a vague article
also unfortunately, they confirmed its too early to apply the paperman technique. its likely to be using the same animation technique that tangled, WiR and frozen did. hopefully this time though, disney doesn’t outright re-use the art style the last two princess films have
i like how when people say “i love couples with size difference” they mean tiny girls with waists so thin the large men they are dating can put their entire hand around them and by love i mean where the FUCK are my tiny vain princes and their huge muscular knight women who don’t put up with any of their shit and hoist them over their shoulders and walk off when they’re having a princely temper tantrum your all WEAK
